ELLA JOHNSON MEMORIAL PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT SEEKS CANDIDATES TO FILL BOARD VACANCY
The Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library District is seeking qualified candidates to fill a vacancy on the Board of Trustees. The Board will appoint someone to fill an unexpired term that will expire in April 2027.
A person is eligible to serve as a Library Trustee if he or she is a qualified elector (voter) of the Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library District and has resided in the Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library District at least one year at the time he or she files a letter of interest.
Submit letters of interest to Linda Wallace, Board President: e-mail lwallace118@yahoo.com or USPS Mail: 109 S. State St., PO Box 429, Hampshire, IL 60140, to be received no later than June 1, 2025. Candidates will be contacted upon receipt of letters of interest.
Interviews will take place at the June 23, 2025, Board meeting.
Basic Trustee Functions
1. Policymaking: to establish and revise policies, through careful study and thoughtful discussion, that will determine the proper governance of the Board and service to the public.
2. Finance: to advise and approve budgets, seeing that the Library District has the necessary funds available for the proper running of the Library District; to promote referendums and bond levies if necessary; to stimulate gifts and endowments.
3. Community Relations: to see that the community understands the objectives and goals of the Library District and to promote good public relations whenever possible.
4. Supervising and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director
Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
